Those cheeky folks over at Mazda sure know how to stir the pot. They just uploaded a (very) short video teasing what looks like sections of the all-new 2019 Mazda3 with text at the end giving us the heads up that says “A New Era Begins November 2018.”
The third-generation Mazda3 has been with us since 2013 and while it still looks fantastic, it’s undeniable that the current model is starting to show some age. Mazda is aware of that and if everything goes as expected, we should be getting a look at the line’s latest evolution in the next 40 days or so.
Automotive aficionados will remember that in the 2017 Tokyo Auto Show, the Japanese manufacturer touted what it called the Kai Concept. Although the Kai wasn’t anything quite like the cars in Mazda’s portfolio at the time, it was clear that some of its design cues were taken from the existing Skyactiv sedans.
More importantly, Mazda’s been dropping hints about its new SkyActiv X technology. Basically, this has the potential to revolutionize the auto industry as it’s supposed to make gasoline engines as efficient as diesel ones. It would take an entire article just to explain the concepts behind it, but what this means for car owners is basically greater efficiency and better torque on their vehicles.
If you’re curious about how SkyActiv X is supposed to work, you should definitely check this video out:
Could Mazda be hinting at SkyActiv X when it says a new ear starts next month? We’ll have to wait and see. If it is, expect the automotive landscape to shift in the coming years.
